Fully customizable, half beef orders can be tailored to include all of your most favorite cuts of beef. Not only can you choose your cuts, you can completely customize your packaging to suit the size and preferences of your family.

Some of our customers who are new to ordering bulk beef can find the process of choosing the cuts overwhelming; which is why we have provided the cut list below as an example. This is what we typically include in our regular cutting instructions, which consists of our most popular cuts of beef. Or, check out our cutting guide for more inspiration!

Specialty Items:

These items are available for an extra cost. 15 lb min order for each item. Specialty items will be made with the beef from your order (typically the ground beef - so be aware that specialty items will greatly reduce the amount of ground beef you will end up with).

  • Garlic Sausage: $4/lb

  • Pepperoni: $4.50/lb

  • Smokies (regular): $4/lb

  • Smokies (cheese): $4.50/lb

  • Smokies (jalapeno & cheese): $4.50/lb

  • Frying Sausage (regular or Italian): $4/lb

  • Jerky: $7.50/lb

  • Hamburger Patties: $25/box (per 10 lb box. Seasoned)

  • Vacuum seal packaging: $0.50/lb (we recommend butcher paper)

  • Pork is added to sausage, pepperoni and smokies (approx. 30%, lean), at $2.50/lb.

*Specialty item prices have been provided by our butcher and are subject to change without notice.

Weight.

Average hanging weight is approx. 300 lbs (hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after initial slaughter once the hide, organs, head and feet have been removed. This weight still includes the trim, which is the fat and bones). This is the weight used to calculate the price/lb for the meat and the butchering fees. This is typical for farm direct ordering.
Average packaged weight is approx. 180 lbs (this is the amount that will end up in your freezer once the order has been trimmed, cut and wrapped).

**Price.

Approximate all-in price is $2000, including butcher fees. The final price is based on the weight of the carcass, which can vary from animal to animal. However, any fluctuation in the final price will directly reflect the amount of beef you will end up with.

Breakdown:
Beef Cost (Hansen Beef): $5.50/lb (no GST)
Butcher Fees (Country Quality Meats): $0.99/lb, plus additional butcher fees for slaughter, cooling, recycling of approx. $97.50 (+ GST)

Pricing Example on an average 300 lb carcass weight:
Hansen Beef Cost: 300 lbs x $5.50 =
$1650.00
Butcher’s Fee: 300 lbs x $1.04 = $312.00 + additional fees of ~ $97.50 & GST =
$429.98

Total cost (estimate)= $2079.98

Deposit + Invoicing + Methods of Payment.

We require a $300 deposit to pre-order. Balance is not due until order pick up/delivery. Deposits are refundable up to 30 days prior to your estimated “ready” date. Please click here for more on our cancellation policy.

The total cost will be split into two separate invoices: one from Hansen Beef (prior to pick up) and one from Country Quality Meats (upon pick up). However, if you have requested delivery, Hansen Beef will provide you with a combined invoice upon delivery.

We accept e-transfer (hansenbeef@outlook.com), cheque or cash.

Pick up + Delivery

Pick up is available from Country Quality Meats (Bon Accord, AB) at no charge. Delivery and pick up is available within Sherwood Park for a $75.00 fee.

What does a 1/2 beef look like?

If you have never ordered before it can be hard to picture what almost 200 lbs of beef looks like, and to know just how much freezer space you will need! Below we have listed the average number of cuts yielded from a half order using our standard cutting list. Please note: This is an example only based on a hanging weight of 300 lbs. Your actual order will vary based on the size of your half and the cuts you choose.

  • Steaks.

    • Tenderloin - 5 lbs

    • NY Strip Loin - 10 lbs

    • Top Sirloin - 8 lbs

    • Rib Eye - 10 lbs

    • Minute - 10 lbs

      Total Steaks = 43 lbs

  • Roasts.

    • Sirloin Tip - 7 lbs

    • Cross Rib - 8 lbs

    • Chuck - 16 lbs

    • Round - 12 lbs

      Total Roasts = 43 lbs

  • Misc.

    • Rouladin - 15 lbs

    • Maui Ribs - 8 lbs

    • Stew Meat - 6 lbs

    • Ground Beef - 66 lbs

      Total Misc = 95 lbs

  • Half order upon pick up.

  • Half order in 17 cu ft. freezer.

    *Ground beef packs in photo are larger than usual (2.5 lbs), so you could expect quite a few more smaller packs when going with the standard size of 1.5 lbs)
